Prisoner commits suicide in the state

Puducherry, Mar 5: A prisoner allegedly committed suicide at the Central Prison here late last evening.

According to police, N Ramamurthy (30) of Manaveli at Ariyankuppam here was serving a sentence in connection with a domestic quarrel case.

Last evening, he jumped from the second floor of the prison and was seriously injured in the process.

He was taken to the government general hospital where the end came. The reason for the prisoner taking the extreme step is not known.

Meanwhile, the deceased's father Narayanan lodged a complaint saying he suspected foul play in the death.
