Mumbai confident of leading government
Shillong, Mar 5 (UNI) Chief Minister J D Rymbai today said he would continue to lead the Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government.
Mr Rymbai, who left for New Delhi this afternoon to fix the state's annual plan with the Planning Commission, hoped the Congress High Command would continue to allow him to lead the government in this politically unstable state ahead of the assembly budget session.
Mr Rymbai, who was asked by the Congress High Command to quit told reporters he would concentrate more now on the forthcoming budget session of the state.
''If we fail to pass any financial bills in the budget session, the government will fail to function and the people will suffer,'' Mr Rymbai said.
When asked whether he would call on Congress president Sonia Gandhi to break the political stalemate, Mr Rymbai said, ''If there is time after the official visit I may call on the Congress president and other AICC leaders.'' However, Congress sources here said the AICC would summon Mr Rymbai to the Congress headquarters during his stay in the national capital.
