Militant killed, jawan injured and grenade defused in J and K

Srinagar, Mar 5 (UNI) One militant was killed and a security jawan wounded while a grenade lobbed on security forces was defused in the Jammu and Kashmir overnight, official sources said today.

They said the militant was killed in an encounter that ensued after a search party was attacked by the ultras at Gund Jehangir in Sumbal area of north Kashmir district of Baramulla today.

One pistol and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.

In another incident, militants hurled a hand grenade at security forces at Karan Nagar area where a number of security force camps are located. However, it did not explode, they said, adding, traffic on the road was suspended and people present in the busy market area were taken to safer places.

Later, a bomb disposal squad defused the grenade without causing any damage.

A security jawan was injured when militants opened fire at a patrol party at Sanai Surankote in Poonch district of Jammu region last night. The militants later managed to escape, they said.
