Media should educate people on legislations
Kochi, Mar 5 (UNI) Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan today urged the media to educate people on the ramifications of various legislations and to draw attention of the policy makers on the lack of judiciary infrastructure.
Addressing a gathering after the launch of a magazine on lrhsl issue 'Neethi' here, Justice Balakrishnan said the media has a pivotal role to play in educating the people on the implications of various legislations enacted in the Parliament.
Expressing happiness over recent media coverage of legal issues, he said people should be aware of the impact of a legislation on the public life.
He said people before criticising the judiciary should also know the constraints within which the legal system was working in the country.
'' The judiciary is working under pressure and adverse circumstances, as large number of cases are pending in various courts,'' Justice Balakrishnan said.
The CJI said the media should draw attention of the policy makers on the lack of judiciary infrastructure.
The media should deliberate on the ways and means that could be adopted to improve the legal system, he added.
Earlier, Justice Balakrishnan inaugurated a lecture series on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of Panampilly Govinda Menon.
