Lawyers protest police excesses
Indore, Mar 5 (UNI) Lawyers stayed away from work for the second day here in support of a demand for action against those responsible for a clash between the police and advocates agitating over the manner of a lawyer's arrest.
''This evening's meeting will determine the future course of action,'' said Indore Abhibhashak Sangh Chairman Amolak Singh.
Advocate Venudhar Parida was apprehended on March 3, under Section 151 of the Indian Penal Code, leading to a scuffle after which the police used force on the lawyers. District and Sessions Judge I S Shrivastav intervened to bring the police under control.
''The police assaulted Mr Parida and treated him as if he was a ruffian,'' said Mr Singh.
A case was registered against advocates blocking a road in protest.
