Chennai, Mar 5 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today urged the Tamil Nadu Government to take immediate steps for gazette notification of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's final award to force Karnataka to release water for 'kuruvai' cultivation.

Refuting Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's contention that gazette notification would hamper the state's move to prefer an appeal before the Tribunal, she said these were two different issues.

In a statement here, she said the immediate need of farmers in delta districts of Tamil Nadu was release of water in June to facilitate kuruvai cultivation.

To ensure the final award should be notified in the official gazette and it had no connection with the state preferring an appeal before the Tribunal or moving the Supreme Court, she said.

Ms Jayalalithaa said the Chief Minister's charge that the AIADMK had taken a stand contradictory to the unanimous decision taken at the all party meeting was nothing but a diversionary tactic.

It was a month since the Tribunal passed the award, but the Chief Minister had taken no step to file a review petition, she charged.
