IPR 2007 to create sustainable base in Orissa:Naveen

Bhubaneswar, Mar 5 (UNI) The industrial policy 2007 approved by the state cabinet recently will help in creating a strong, diversified and sustainable industrial base in Orissa, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said.

Inaugurating the Entrepreneurs Week 2007, organised by the Coordination committee of the Industries Association, Orissa, here today, Mr Patnaik said the new policy has recognised industrialisation as a major strategy to accelerate the economic growth rate, create maximum employment opportunities and expand revenue base of the state.

The Chief Minister said the state was observing the day as the birth anniversary of Biju Patnaik, who was a doyen of Orissa industry and himself an entrepreneur had a clear vision of rapid industrialisation of Orissa.

''Under his dynamic leadership, the state made a stride in industrial growth,'' Mr Patnaik said adding to fulfill his dreams of building an industrialised Orissa, the state government had taken several bold initiatives.

Orissa, he said, has emerged as a major investment destination attracting investment exceeding Rs 400,000 crore in sectors such as Steel, Aluminium, Alumina, Power, Information Technology and IT enabled Services and Tourism.

A large number of these intents are already under implementation.

As of now more than 25 of the 60 MoUs signed by the government were at different stages of implementation involving a total investment of over Rs 30,000 crore creating employment opportunities for over 30,000 people.
