Centre nod for IISER in Kerala: CM
Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 5 (UNI) The Centre has accepted in principle to set up an Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research (IISER) here, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan informed the State Assembly today.
Replying to a Calling Attention motion by Mr G Karthikeyan (Cong), he said Secretary for Higher Education had been asked to identify a suitable piece land for the project.
Mr Achuthanandan said though the Centre had sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the development of the Government Medical College Hospital here, efforts would be continued to get it elevated to the status of the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS).
Replying to another Calling Attention by Mr Babu M Palissery (CPI-M), Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Vijjayakumar said a petition would be filed before the Supreme Court seeking a review of its judgement imposing controls on noise pollution between 2200 hrs and 0600 hrs as it affected the conduct of festivals in temples, churches and mosques in the state.
He said the Centre would also be requested to bring in necessary amendments to the Act and Rules with regard to noise pollution.
