Cauvery agitation continues in K'taka

Mysore, Mar 5 (UNI) Dharnas, court boycott, hunger strike, motorbike rally and processions marked the protests by farmers and various organisations in the Cauvery basin districts of Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajanagar in Karnataka against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, today.

In Mandya, advocates boycotted court proceedings and staged a dharna against the verdict. Ex-MLC Siddaraju led a motorbike rally from Maddur to Mandya and religious heads participated in a protest meeting at Malavalli village. Kodihalli village farmers took out a massive bullock cart rally. The relay hunger strike by the Cauvery Hitarakshana Samithi at Mandya, Srirangapatna, Pandavapura and K R Pet continued.

In Mysore, Ms Parvathamma Rajkumar, film producer and wife of late Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar, staged a dharna at K R Circle along with some actors and Stree Shakthi members. Later, they took out a procession and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, urging the Union Government to take necessary steps to solve the vexed issue. The District Lorry Owners Association took out a procession to the Deputy Commissioner's office.

Farmers staged dharna and protested against the award at Gundlupet village in Chamarajanagar district.
