Baalu approves road improvement works in Himachal Pradesh

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) Union Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu has approved an amount of Rs 1707.39 lakh for undertaking improvement works on National Highways in Himachal Pradesh.

A sum of Rs. 420 lakh has been sanctioned for maintenance and repairs of NH 1A, 20, 21, 21A, 22, 70, 72 and 88.

The minister also approved a sum of Rs 287.94 lakh for widening and strengthening to two lane of NH-88 on Shimla-Matour Road.

An amount of Rs 279.23 lakh has been approved for profile correction of Barog bypass on NH-22 of Kalka-Shimla Wangtoo road while another Rs 192.39 lakh has been approved for strengthening of Kalka-Shimla Wangtoo road on NH-22.

For providing safety measures like construction of retaining walls and breast walls on NH-22 for Shimla bypass, Mr Baalu sanctioned an amount of Rs 197.48 lakh. It has been found necessary to provide these walls to create sufficient width and for safe and smooth flow of traffic, which includes trucks carrying horticulture products, construction material and heavy machinery.

An amount of Rs 185.99 lakh has been approved for protection works to Chikni bridge and Mahadev Bridge on Pinjore-Baddi-Nalarh-Swarghat road of NH-21 A. The bridges, constructed over 20 years back, have been eroded due to heavy floods, necessitating immediate repair.

An amount of Rs. 85.85 lakh has been approved for strengthening of existing carriageway for one km of Pathankot-Nurpur-Palampur-Joginder Nagar Mandi road of NH-20.

The minister also sanctioned Rs 58.51 lakh for protection to Bata Bridge on NH-72 on Ambala-Dehra Dun-Haridwar road, which connects the two cantonments of Ambala and Dehra Dun.
