Zilla Parishad

Dahanu, Thane, Mar 4 (UNI) The Zilla Parishad and Panchayat elections on March 11 in Thane district will witness a multi-cornered contest.

The Shiv-Sena BJP alliance, the NCP and allied parties and the Congress, which has tied-up with the Kunbi-Agri Sena and the Shramajivi Sanghatana, are engaged in the struggle for supremacy.

Advocate Chintaman Wanga, President of the BJP Thane district unit, who is overseeing the elections in Thane district along with senior BJP leader Om Prakash Sharma, told mediapersons here today that the present situation in rural parts of the district, in which the tribals and farmers were grappling with the price rice and heavy load shedding, will prove suicidal to the Congress and NCP fronts and prevent them from entering the Parishad.

There are a total of 68 wards for Zilla Parishad and 166 wards for Panchayat samitis. Of these, the BJP has fielded its candidates in 32 ZP and 68 PS wards, he said adding that he was confident that the party candidates will fare well this time and establish their rule.
