Woman commits suicide due to marriage failure

Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, Mar 3 (UNI) A woman committed suicide last night ten days after her love marriage ended in dismal failure.

Police said Kamatchi(22) hailing from Thirumukkadu near Acharapakam in Kancheepuram district, who was working as a warden in a private company at Chennai, fell in love with Jayaraman(25) a coolie, residing in Chennai and married him in Tirupathi. When Jayaraman's parents, came to know about their marriage they took only their son with them.

On enquiry by the police, following a complaint lodged by the girl's family, the boy's family assured them that they would perform the marriage of the couple as per the procedure within ten days. It is, however, being alleged that Jayaram's parents conducted the marrige of their son to another girl.

The demoralised Kamatchi consumed poison and was rushed to the Tambaram Government Hospital but the treatment went in vain and she succumbed to death.

A case had been registered and investigation was underway, police added.
