Two die in snow-covered valley

Shimla, Mar 4 (UNI) Two severely ill people, including a five-year-old stranded for 10 days in Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh have died, police and official sources said.

The two were waiting to be evacuated from the Lahaul Valley, 400 km from here, and died hours before a government helicopter landed arrived, after 10 days, due to inclement weather.

The valley remains cut of from the rest of the country for months in winter due to heavy snow over the high passes.

A not so frequent helicopter service is the only source of link with the outer world, bringing in supplies and medicines and airlifting the seriously ill.
