Guwahati, Mar 4 (UNI) The festival of colours 'Holi' was celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety throughout Asom over the weekend.

People of all ages and religions, in most parts of the state, joined the two-day celebration ending today. Meanwhile, in some areas, like Barpeta district, the festivities will continue for a couple of days more.

Governor Lt Gen(Retd) Ajai Singh has wished the people on this occasion. In a statement, the Governor said that the festival of colours would also bring the people closer and friendship would blossom amidst the colours of Holi.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, while greeting the state on Holi, wished that the festival would bring peace and prosperity among all.

While most people moved in groups and smeared colours on acquaintances, as well as passer-bys, young boys were also seen spraying water colours inside moving vehicles.

Though prohibitory orders are in force against smearing colour on passer-bys and vehicles, those at the receiving end were not seen complaining, as the festival of colours had gripped the mood in the city.
