Army jawan commits suicide at Udhampur

Jammu, Mar 4 (UNI) An Army jawan allegedly committed suicide on duty today near northern command headquarters at Udhampur, 60 kms from here, an official spokesman said.

Sepoy M P Mandhare Nilesh Ashok (21) of Udhampur-based 5171 ASC battalion shot himself with his service weapon at 0555 hours, Army spokesman Lt Col S K Gautam told UNI.

A suicide note, indicating family problems, was also recovered.

The 21-year-old soldier belonged to Satara in Maharashtra and had been on leave recently. He had four years of service.

An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
