Security tightened in UP on Holi eve
Lucknow, Mar 3 (UNI) Security has been beefed up all over Uttar Pradesh following the receipt of a threat letter allegedly sent by terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba, which has threatened to wreak havoc on Holi.
Police said a large number of security personnel have been pressed into round the clock service in Varanasi, Lucknow, Mathura, Ayodhya and Agra. Besides, the security at all sensitive and public places, including temples, railway stations, airports and bus terminals has been strenghtened.
The police is keeping an extra vigil around the railway stations and aboard trains as well as buses.
Last evening, the alumni cell of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has received a letter purportedly been authored by an LeT operative of Jammu.
The letter contained specific threat of wreaking havoc on Holi -- March 4 -- at the blast hit Sankatmochan temple and Varanasi Cantonment railway station, besides Kashi Vishwanath temple and BHU Vishwanath temple in Varanasi.
The letter further stated Lucknow railway station is also an LeT target on Holi. Besides the letter also threatens to trigger blast at the Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya on Ram Navami to be followed with another blast at Mathura.
