Modern laboratory to be set up in Tripura

Agartala, Mar 03 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today said a full-fledged and modern laboratory would soon be set up here to conduct any kind of tests in case of water contamination.

In reply to a calling attention in the first day of the budget session of the Assembly yesterday, the Chief Minister said that the laboratory of the Tripura State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) would be equipped to deal with possible contamination of water. The recent incident of chemical spill in river Howrah was discussed in the state cabinet and Chief Secretary Sashiprakash was asked to conduct test of water in all rivers in the wake of the incident, he said.

Earlier, Water Resources Minister Badal Choudhury informed the house that a departmental probe has been ordered to conduct an indepth study into the incident. The team was asked to submit its report within two weeks, he said adding necessary steps would be taken against the guilty. The police authorities were also asked to find out how many factories were functioning without legal permission in the state.
