MP: MLA's supporters ransack police station
Sagar,(MP) Mar 3: A case of obstructing government work, and other charges, was registered against 31 people for allegedly assaulting personnel last evening at this district's Gaurjhamar Police Station, misbehaviour, stone-pelting and other damage to property, the police said today.
Half-a-dozen personnel were slightly injured. An additional police force has been stationed at Gaurjhamar, about 40 km from here. The accused were said to be supporters of Devri's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Ratan Singh. ''Four personnel were line-attached for carelessness,'' said Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shahid Awsar.
Supporter Sharad Sharma alleged that he was not invited to a peace committee meeting conducted here yesterday, stopped Constable Mahesh Sharma at a public place and misbehaved with him. A case was registered against Sharad Sharma who was taken to the police station. Later, about 500 people barged into the police station and Mr Singh also reached the place.
Senior police officers from Sagar and surrounding blocks led personnel to Gaurjhamar and brought the situation under control. The case was registered against Sharad Sharma, his relatives and others but no arrest was reported thus far.
