Minister urges PM, Lalu to extend train service to Vizag

Visakhapatnam, Mar 3 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Mines T Subbarami Reddy today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to extend the Raipur-Secunderabad 'Garib Rath' train service to Visakhapatnam.

In letters addressed to them, he said Visakhapatnam district was being neglected in railway development, though the city was expected to get an investment of Rs 40,000 crore in the coming years.

Dr Reddy said Visakhapatnam was a fast growing city and infrastructure for the railways needed a development to promote the industrialisation process .

He also favoured the extension of Puri-New Delhi ''Purshottam'' express to Visakhapatnam. The thrice-a-week New Delhi to Visakhapatnam ''Samata'' express should be operated daily and also the Bhubaneswar-Chennai weekly express, he added.
