Bhuj, Mar 3 (UNI) The much-awaited container terminal at Kandla port will begin its operation from March ten.

The first phase of the project will start on March 10 and the company, a co-partner in the project with Kandla Port has invested Rs 110 crore, one-third of the total cost of the project, Mr Suketu Agrawal, Director of Agrawal Brothers Group of Companies, Mumbai, said here today .

The company will initially provide two each of mobile harbour cranes, quay cranes, rubber tyres gantry cranes, ten prime movers and 900 slots. Two grantry cranes of 25 tonnes capacity, being manufactured at Korea for the project, are likely to be installed in the Middle of May.

Mr Agrawal ruled out the fear of the port users that with limited equipment and one berth for handling the container cargo, would lead to delay and the traffic may divert to the neighbouring port. He said with the existing facility also, the traffic would be handled efficiently.
