Tennis coach held under Domestic Violence Act
Chennai, Mar 2 (UNI) Prominent player-turned-tennis coach Suresh Kumar was today arrested under the Domestic Violence Act.
Acting on a complaint from his wife Deepa Natarajan, a software engineer, police arrested him at suburban Neelangarai.
He was produced before a court in suburban Tambaram and remanded in 15 days' judicial custody. He was later lodged in the newly constructed jail at Puzhal.
The bespectacled Suresh Kumar, who had played for Tamil Nadu in mid-80s, married his trainee Deepa seven years back and they had a three-year-old girl child. He is running a Tennis Academy at Adyar area in the city.
In her complaint, Deepa said Suresh Kumar had been torturing her regularly and was also sexually abusing his trainees, and had been using their residence as a guest house.
Deepa also claimed that she was pushed down by her husband and suffered a fracture. But, considering the child's future, she decided against lodging a complaint with the police.
However, unable to bear her constant torture, Deepa had moved the family court seeking a divorce.
