Shahabuddin's conviction proves rule of law in Bihar: Modi
Patna, Mar 2 (UNI) Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today said the conviction of RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin indicated that the rule of law existed in the state.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Modi said no political interference was being allowed to influence the investigation of cases involving high profile accused and no criminal would be allowed to escape the dragnet of law irrespective of his position or party affiliations.
''During the earlier RJD regime, investigation was influenced by political masters and policemen were deliberately avoiding to produce witnesses in the case,'' he alleged.
Mr Modi said it was unfortunate that the RJD was making statement in favour of Shahabuddin, who is accused of several criminal cases.
Shahabuddin, presently lodged in Siwan jail, is facing criminal cases in connection with treason, Arms Act, Wildlife Act, illegal possession of firearms and equipment used by the Army, for keeping foreign currencies, owning Pakistan-made cartridges, theft of electricity and vehicles, murders, abductions and others.
