Senior citizens of Mauritius visits OIA Ministry
New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) The Overseas Indian Affairs (OIA) Ministry is seriously considering expanding the People of Indian Origin (PIO) card scheme.
This was communicated by OIA Secretary Nirmal Singh to a delegation of senior citizens of Mauritius who met him here today.
Several members of the delegation spoke about the facilities given to senior citizens in Mauritius, including pension after 60 years of age, free medical health checkup, free public transport, and recreational facilities.
The Senior Citizens Council of Mauritius also submitted a request to obtain PIO card gratis.
Mr Singh assured the delegation that the Ministry is working on expanding the scheme. He said the request will be considered.
The Senior Citizens Council of Delhi (SCCD), signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Senior Citizens Council of Mauritius last year. The Mauritian delegation is in India on the invitation of the SCCD.
