RIA inaugural conference begins tomorrow

Bangalore, Mar 2 (UNI) The first Annual Conference of Rabies in Asia (RIA) Foundation, a body of experts formed to evolve practical strategies to reduce the burden of rabies in Asia, will be held in the city from tomorrow.

The two-day conference, organised by the city-based National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), would be attended by over 60 Rabies experts from several Asian countries.

Besides other international experts and representatives from WHO would also attend.

Briefing newspersons on the conference, NIMHANS Director D Nagaraja said the purpose of the meeting would be to reassess the problem of human and animal rabies, discuss the relevant issues and come out with practical strategies. The recommendations which would be handed over to the respective government for further action.

A key aspect of discussion would be to find ways to reduce dog rabies and stray dog population in these countries, Dr Nagaraja added.
