Reopening of Tecil due to UDF's efforts: Chandy

Kottayam, Mar 2 (UNI) Opposition leader Oommen Chandy today criticised the LDF Government for taking the credit for the reopening of Tecil Chemicals and Hydro Power Limited at Chingavanam near here, which had been sealed since 1999.

At a news conference here, the former Chief Minister said because of the continuous efforts of the previous UDF Government a conducive situation had developed for the revival and reopening of the factory.

Presenting copies of various Government Orders and briefing the steps taken by the UDF Government to support his claim, Mr Chandy said the factory would have been reopened, during his time itself, if the Assembly election was not held at that time.

Countering the LDF claim that it had reopened Tecil, he asked ''what step it had taken to reopen the factory''. By merely opening the gate of a factory it could not be reopened. For reopening, production should be started, he reminded and appealed to the LDF Government to take steps for implementing the decisions of the UDF Government for reopening the factory by starting production.

Referring to the charges that he had diverted the tsunami funds, Mr Chandy said assistance had been given to all eligible persons without showing any discrimination during his time from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and he was ready to face inquiry on that.

The LDF Government was also going to do what he had done in that regard, he said and added that the Governor's address to the House was a proof for it.

The UDF had given importance to performance than publicity and propaganda, but the LDF was giving importance to publicity, he added.
