Hyderabad, Mar 2 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration Minister K Ranga Rao today clarified that there was no proposal to impose any tax on barber shops.

The Government is not at all contemplating any such tax.

Following a direction from the Supreme Court and the Centre, bulk garbage charges were collected only from big commercial establishments, including hotels, hospitals and Government offices, to dispose of five kg and more garbage, he told reporters here.

However, the barber shops were directed to hand over the hair to 'Subaraks' (Rickshaw pullers) to avoid indiscriminate dumping of waste on the main roads and streets as human hair was a biodegradable waste and if it belonged to any person with diseases it could spread diseases and contamination.

''Service charges are levied for collecting waste from the doorsteps of only the big establishments and carrying it to the disposal site,'' Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sanjay Jaju, who was also present, explained.
