New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) A 60-year-old woman and the 11-year-old son of a retired army officer were murdered today allegedly by their domestic help in South West Delhi's Vasant Kunj area.

The accused also assaulted the officer's 15-year-old daughter, who raised the alarm.

Mithilesh Kumar Singh was arrested later and has been remanded in 15 days of judicial custody.

According to South West Delhi DCP R S Yadav, Mithilesh Kumar Singh, murdered Surjeet Kaur and Karan in Colonel Manpreet Singh's apartment when other family members were out.

Police claimed that the motive for the murders was robbery, and have charged Mithilesh with murder and attempt to murder.

Surjeet Kaur, Colonel's aunt, had come to visit the family.

The Colonel, currently working in a private firm, had recently hired a Mithilesh, but apparently did not get him verified by the police.

Colonel Singh's daughter Mehek, who was in school when the crime was committed, subsequently returned home and enquired about the whereabouts of her family.

Mithilesh then panicked and assaulted her. However, she escaped and taking the help of the private security guard outside - Bhupen Singh - managed to chase the accused, who was on the run.
