BJP fears postponement of UP polls till Presidential elections
New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) Apprehending an attempt to postpone the elections in Uttar Pradesh till the completion of the presidential polls to deny the BJP a say in the choice for the next President by the ruling UPA, the party today asked the Election Commission to complete the poll process in the state on time.
BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said although such a move was legally impossible, going by the Congress' past, anything was possible. Hence, the BJP made an appeal before the EC to take note of such an apprehension, especially after the routing of Congress in the Punjab and Uttarakhand elections, he added.
He also requested the EC to be alert to the possibilities of misusing of the police and key administration officials in the elections.
The EC has fixed elections in Uttar Pradesh during April and May.
