75,000 dwelling units per annum needed in Delhi: Maken
New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken told Parliament that Delhi Master Plan 2021 recognises the fact that even after redeveloping existing areas in the national capital, there will still be need for at least 75,000 dwelling units per annum in different categories.
To review and assess the progress, a five yearly target had been provided in the plan with monitoring period of one to four years for different types of housing development projects, he said in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
The MPD 2021 provided for meeting the requirements relating to shelter, commercial and industrial space, social and physical infrastructure, transportation, mixed use, environment and heritage conservation for the projected population of 230 lakh by 2021.
Prospective plans in respect of water supply, sewerage, power supply and solid waste management prepared by the agencies concerned had also been annexed in the document.
The development control norms for buildings/buildings within residential plots had been modified to permit increased ground coverage, floor area ratio, additional height and number of dwelling units.
There was a provision for regularization of existing constructions. The mixed-use policy had also been modified keeping in view the ground realities. These measures were likely to meet the genuine requirements of the people, he added.
Delhi Urbanisation According to the master plan about 27,000 hectares of land, including some built up area, had been projected as available for urbanization, Mr Maken said in reply to another question.
This land was broadly to be distributed in different land uses such as residential, commercial, green/recreational facilities and circulation in urban extensions, he said.
45 to 55 per cent of the total 'unrealizable area' had been proposed for residential land use in the urban extension.
Government Accommodation The minister said as on date the number of government accommodations under the unauthorised occupation in VIP and general category areas was 782.
Eviction proceedings under the provisions of Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act 1971, had been initiated against them to secure vacant possession of the houses, he said in response to another question.
Delhi Metro Delhi Metro Rail Corporation proposed to start new feeder buses on 36 routes to provide better connectivity with metro stations, he informed the lower house in reply to another query.
To begin with, CNG operated mini buses would be introduced to connect with 27 Metro stations.
The proposal was likely to be finalised in six months.
Mr Maken, however, said Delhi Metro was not struggling with poor ridership due to inadequate feeder bus services.
