PIL against UP chief secretary, DGP dismissed

Lucknow, Mar 1 (UNI) Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today dismissed a PIL seeking the removal of 52 government servants, including Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpai and DGP Bua Singh.

The court dismissed the petition -- filed on February 23 by Satyam Maurya -- by terming it not-maintainable and remarked such petitions are filed to earn name and have little public welfare motive.

Besides, the PIL had made the Central government, UP government, Samajwadi Party and Election Commission as respondents.

The petitioner had alleged the Chief Secretary, the DGP and other government officials had worked like party workers at a function organised by Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and the ruling SP to commemorate three years of SP rule in UP.

The PIL claimed that since the function was a private SP affair, these officials had misused their authority and power.

The petitioner had demanded these officials be replaced, since the forthcoming assembly poll in UP could not be conducted in a free and fair manner under them.

Further, the PIL alleged the expenses incurred in the ceremony were borne by the state exchequer.
