Music Festival in honour of Saint Thyagaraja from March 9

Bangalore, Mar 1 (UNI) A rare feast is in store for music lovers when more than 60 artistes perform as part of a three-day music festival in honour of Saint Thiyagaraja in the city from March nine.

In the festival, to be held for the first time in the garden city, renowned musicians, including O S Thygarajan, R K Padmanabha, Rudrapatnam brothers, G Ravikiran, T S Sathyavathi and Nagamani Srinath, would enthrall music buffs.

Giving details of the festival, Shashikiran of Carnatica Global Gurukulam said that to mark the occasion, 'Rama Vaibhavam' CD series would be released. The CD would contain six thesis on Lord Rama and the proceeds would go to a trust managing the Sri Bhargava Rama Patashala in Hiremagalur, the first of its kind in the country. In the Gurukula, students would be trained to become priests, irrespective of their social background. Girls could also take up the training. Education, living expenses, books and clothing were provided free of cost by the Trust.

The CDs, priced at Rs 150 each and Rs 600 for the series, contain Devaranama by renowned carnatic vocalists, performances by legends and popular artists, songs and bhajans by Hindustani musicians, upcoming artistes and Carnatic music by Shashikiran brothers.
