Labour ministry sets up centre for handicapped persons in J-K

Srinagar, Mar 1 (UNI) The Union Ministry of Labour and Employment has set up a new Vocational Rehabilitation Centre (VRC) for physically challenged people in the Kashmir Valley.

The Centre, one of the 20 such centers established in different parts of the country by the ministry, will start functioning in the campus of the Kashmir Government Polytechnic, Gogji Bagh.

A spokesman of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) here said the main objective of this centre is to evaluate abilities of the handicapped persons and ascertain their social and vocational needs.

The centre would help in arranging skill training and developing rehabilitation plans.

It will also provide counselling, career guidance, training and help in seeking employment in Government and semi-Government Undertakings to the registered persons.

The spokesman said registration at the Centre has started from December 2006. The visual and hearing impaired and persons with orthopaedic problems, between the ages of 15 to 50 years are eligible for admission.
