New Delhi, Mar 01 (UNI) India and Cuba will cooperate in the field of renewable energy and have agreed to renew the Protocol of Cooperation in Renewable Energy for another two years.

This was decided at the Sixth Session of the Inter-Governmental Commission for Economic, Technical and Scientific Collaboration between the two countries in Havana, an official spokesman said here today.

The two countries have also agreed to increase exchange in areas of wind energy and bio-technology as part of the conclusion of the Sixth Session of the Inter-governmental Joint Commission.

While Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma led the Indian delegation at the talks on February 13, the Cuban side was headed by Marta Lomas, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Economic Collaboration.

Cuba also offered knowledge in the production of energy from sugarcane waste.

Considering the importance of renewable energy and the development achieved by the two countries, India will arrange a specific training programme in wind energy for 15 Cuban experts under ITEC Programme.

An Indian delegation will visit Cuba to see the area of co-generation using Bagasse in Sugar Mills, the spokesman said.
