Govt seeks private professionals help to provide healthcare to al

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) Health Minister Anbumoni Ramadoss today called health professionals to supplment the government efforts in providing healthcare to all, epecially those in rural areas and North Eastern region.

Delivering the keynote address on 'Ecology and Health' at the 13th Annual General Body Meeting and Continuing Medical Education Programme of the Sister Doctors Forum of India here, Dr Ramadoss appreciated the work done by the members of the Forum. He asked them to play a leading role in taking the health care facilities to the people.

According to Dr Ramadoss, the well being of humanity and all life depends on a healthy environment and the balance of local and global ecological systems that support and sustain life. Human activity has created an imbalance in these ecosystems as vital resources are being utilised faster than nature can replace them, he pointed out.

The Minister said that the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), which is in the second year of its implementation, seeks to provide effective health care to all the people in the country with special focus on rural population. Recognizing the importance of this Mission, the Budget allocation has been increased from Rs. 8207 crore in 2006-07 to Rs. 9947 crore in 2007-08, he pointed out.
