New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) Admitting that there were delays in the disposal of environment-related cases, the Government today said it was actively considering setting up environment courts as recommended by the Law Commission.

Since none of the courts in the country have exclusive jurisdiction over environmental issues, there are procedural delays in disposal of cases, Minister of Environment and Forests Namo Narain Meena told the Lok Sabha today.

He said the Law Commission in its 186th Report has inter alia recommended establishment of separate courts at the state level consisting of judicial and scientific experts for dealing with environmental disputes.

Such courts were to have appellate jusrisdiction in respect of appeals under the various Pollution Control Laws.

''The recommendations of the report are under active considerations of the Government,'' said the Minister.
