Dalit houses set on fire in Haryana village
Karnal, Mar 1 (UNI) Miscreants today attacked a Dalit colony and set on fire several houses in Salwan village of Karnal district in Haryana.
Police have arrested five people and booked as many as 80 in this connection, Superintendent of Police Sibas Kaviraj said.
The miscreants attacked the Dalit colony, vandalised several houses and set fire to some of them. However, there was no loss of life as and the police reached the site and took control of the situation with the help of village residents. Most of the miscreants fled the spot.
The SP said five houses were set on fire while the number of those vandalised was over 50.
Some police personnel and village residents were injured in the incident.
The SP said a man belonging to Rajput community was killed in Salwan village two days ago.
Meanwhile Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had directed the police officials to take stringent action against the guilty in today's arson attack on the Dalit colony.
Deputy Commissioner B S Malik said the assessment of the damage in various houses had been made and those affected would be adequately compensated.
