Conmen posing as police cheat textile merchant

Surat, Mar 1 (UNI) Two men, posing as police officials, decamped with booty worth Rs 36,000 from a textile merchant from Mumbai, who was on a business trip here.

Mahidharpura police informed here today that Rameshkumar Jagatjit Rajpurohit, a textile merchant working with Tirupati silk mills in Bhuleshwar Road in Mumbai, arrived here yesterday for some business purpose.

Last night, two unidentified persons approched Rajpurohit near Vijay lodge in Dilli Gate and introduced themselves as policemen.

The culprits then told Rajpurohit that they want to check his suitcase, which Mr Rajapurohit handed over to them immediately.

The conmen then 'checked' the suitcase, his purse and pocket and then let him go.

Later, to his shock, Rajpurohit realised that he has been robbed of Rs 36,000. He immediately informed the matter to Mahidharpura police and a case has been registered as per IPC sections 170, 420 and 114, sources said.
