Army JCO killed in snowslide at Poonch

Jammu, Mar 1 (UNI) A junior commissioned officer (JCO) of army was killed as a snowslide struck a forward post in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, an army spokesman said today.

Subedar Ghana Oaron, a Vir Chakra awardee, got buried under a snowslide late on Tuesday while performing his duty, the spokesman said.

The body of the deceased was retrieved yesterday. ''the troops launched a rescue operation immediately but it took 15 hours to retrieve his body due to adverse weather conditions,'' the spokesman said.

The mortal remains of Subedar, who belonged to a tribal community of Bihar, will be taken to his native place for cremation, the spokesman added.
