Ahmed takes over as DG of CRPF
New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) Senior IPS officer Syed Iftikhar Sultan Ahmed today took over as the new Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
He succeeds Mr G K Sinha who retired three months ago. Mr J K Dutt has been holding charge during the gap.
A 1970 batch officer of the West Bengal cadre, Mr Ahmed has been Director General of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) since May 2005.
Fifty-nine-year old Ahmed, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, told mediapersons here that his priority would be to modernise the 250,000-strong force and chalk out measures to reduce stress of the men in the force.
He was Additional Director General of the Border Security Force during 2003-05 and was handling the border management of entire stretch of Indo-Bangladesh border. He was in-charge of the counter insurgency operations in Assan1, Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura.
Mr Ahmed was decorated with the Police Medal for Meritorious Services and with the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Services.
