Afghan delegation of jurists, lawmakers call on Law Minister

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) An eleven-member Afghan delegation comprising prominent jurists and lawmakers, called on Law and Justice Minister H.R. Bhardwaj here today and discussed the legal system in both countries.

The delegation, led by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ghulam Farooq Wardak, included two Justices of the Supreme Court of Afghanistan, Mohammad Omar Babrakzai and Mohammad Alim Nasimi, and two prominent members of both Houses of Afghan Parliament, Dr Burhanullah Shinwari and Liaqatullah Babakerkhil.

The delegation evinced keen interest in the functioning of the Ministry of Law and Justice.

Mr Bhardawaj informed the delegation members that judiciary in India is absolutely free and the Ministry has no say in its functioning.

He said criminal justice is the responsibility of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Afghan delegation apprised the Minister about the Judicial system in Afghanistan.
