Chennai, Mar 1 (UNI) Versatile actor Kamal Hassan today exhorted the student community to work hard and bring laurels to the country.

Presenting the ''offer letters'' of various IT companies to the students of self financing Panimalar Engineering college, near here, he said ''the hard work that you put in counts than money. You should bring laurels to our country through your contribution.'' In all, 347 students were recruited by reputed companies and the college organised ''Achievers' Day'' to distribute the offer letters to the students.

Mr Kamal said ''it is parents who experience true happiness by controlling their tears of joy when their wards make achievements.'' ''The very existence in this world is to exist and though each one competes against 40 million competitors, everyone is a winner,'' he said.

IBM India Ltd General Manager Ravi Narayan was the guest of honour of the function, while Sathyabama University Founder and Chancellor Jeppiaar presided over the function.

Later, addressing the students, Mr Ravi Narayan said ''achievement is not a designation earned, rather it is a journey of success that the institution has placed you. By having a clear roadmap of your goals in life, you can withhold the journey and convert dreams into reality.'' Mr Jeppiaar said ''entry into any field is not important, it is the exit that counts. Values that are followed by students will be looked upon in the long run of your life.'' Leading IT Companies like Wipro, HCL, Cognizant, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Polaris, US Technologies Ltd, Siemens and several other MNCs visited the campus and recruited students from BE, B Tech, MBA and MCA.
