Siemens, Nokia win Telenor Pakistan deal extension

FRANKFURT/HELSINKI, Feb 28 (Reuters) Finland's Nokia and Germany's Siemens have won a deal potentially worth a total of 0 million to expand Telenor Pakistan's GSM mobile network, they said on Wednesday.

The contract with Pakistan's second-biggest mobile carrier is an extension of a previous deal with Nokia and will now run until 2009.

Nokia and Siemens' networks joint venture, Nokia Siemens Networks, is due to go into operation at the end of March.

Nokia said it had started delivering more than 2,000 base stations to increase capacity and coverage in most of Punjab, North-West Frontier Province, the Pakistan-administered part of Kashmir and northern Pakistan including Islamabad.

Siemens said it would take over network operation after the expansion phase.

Siemens shares were down 4 percent at 78.50 euros by 0801 GMT, underperforming a 2.2-percent drop in Germany's blue-chip DAX. Nokia shares were down 2.7 percent at 16.41 euros.
