Renowned jeweller, philanthropist Rashmikant Durlabhji dead

Jaipur, Feb 28 (UNI) Renowned jeweller and philanthropist Laxmikant Durlabhji passed away here early today.

He was around 70.

Ailing for the past few days, Rashmikant developed breathing problems yesterday, after which he was admitted to Santokba Durlabhji Hospital. He passed away around 0530 hrs in the morning.

Mainly connected with the jewellery trade dealing with precious stones found in Rajasthan, Rashmikant was a stalwart in his own field and a well-known and respected personality in the city. With a knack for philanthropy, he contributed a part of his time for educational and health-related activities.

Santokhba Durlabhji Hospital, one of Rajasthan's most renowned private hospital, was set up by Rashmikant's father Khelshankar Dulabhji in 1972. Thereafter Rashmikant, as secretary of the hospital trust, looked after the hospital activities and helped its expansion. In 1997, he helped open the Avedhna Ashram for ailing, senior citizens.

Rashmikant was instrumental in making the annual Jaipur Jewellery Show a name to reckon with in the jewellery trade.

His body was kept at the Avedhna Ashram to enable citizens to pay last tributes. He is survived by his wife, a son and daughter.
