ISI agent sentenced to 14 years RI
Jamnagar, Feb 28 (UNI) A local court has sentenced an ISI agent, Mujib Anwar Raja Paniwala to 14 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) after being found guilty under the official secrets act.
However, Additional Sessions Judge S K Pandey acquitted three other persons--Fakir Adam Husen, Usman Gani and Mohmmad Siddique, arrested in connection with the same case, under benefit of doubt.
According to the prosecution case, Mujib Anwar was arrested by police on February 28, 2003 from a cyber cafe at Jamnagar following a tip off. During the search operation, the police recovered maps of Defence stations located in Jamnagar, passports in various names, illegal literature and SIM Cards from his possession.
On the basis of his interrogation, the police arrested three persons from Mumbai, who were helping the accused in his activities.
In all, 49 witnesses were examined in the case and prosecution produced documentary evidence to prove his illegal activities and appealed for maximum punishment.
