Fisherman injured as Sri Lankan Navy personnel opens fire
Chennai, Feb 28 (UNI) In its continuing attack, Sri Lankan Navy personnel opened fire injuring one fisherman from Tamil Nadu in the high seas off Rameswaram coast early today.
A group of five fishermen ventured into the sea for fishing yesterday. When they were fishing near Katchachatheevu, the Lankan Navy personnel opened fire, injuring one of them.
The injured was identified as Xavier from Thangachi Madam in Rameswaram.
He was admitted to the government hospital after the fellow fishermen brought him to the shore this morning, police sources told UNI.
This is the third such incident in the last few days. One of the fisherman from Nagapattinam was shot dead by the Navy, while another was injured on February 26. In an earlier incident, a fisherman was injured when Sri Lankan Navy personnel opened fire off Pudukottai coast.
Meanwhile, a group of seven fishermen from Ramanathapuram, who had set out for fishing on February 23 and reported missing, returned to the shore today.
