Dr Shankar conferred upon 'Doctor of Science' degree

Vijayawada, Feb 28 (UNI) Dr P S Shankar, Director of M R Medical College, Gulbarga, was conferred upon honorary degree of ''Doctor of Science'' by Vice-Chancellor of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences (NUHS) Prof R Sambasiva Rao here today.

The degree was conferred to Dr Shankar at the XI annual convocation held at Sri Thummalapallivari Kshetrayya kalakshetram here.

Recipient of many awards, which included Dr B C Roy award, Commonwealth medical fellowship and Karnataka Rajyotsava award, Dr Shankar, emeritus professor of medicine at the M R Medical college, had authored 105 books and brought out booklets in English and Kannada.

His books had bagged awards from Mysore University, Gulbarga University and University of Agricultural Sciences.

Besides working in the field of lung cancer, pulmonary tuberculosis and infectious diseases, Dr Shankar had also written more than 370 scientific articles in journals and contributed 73 chapters.
