Countrywide BIS raids at 20 location in 8 states

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has conducted raids at 20 locations across eight states against firms misusing the ISI mark without a valid license.

The raids carried out yesterday in Delhi, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala and Assam were against firms manufacturing packaged drinking water, gas stoves, cement, plywood, PVC insulated cables and GLS lamps, the BIS said today.

''More raids are on the anvil as fake products are a threat to the safety and health of the common man,'' BIS Chief Vigilance Officer Anant Dhule said.

While the maximum six raids were conducted in Delhi, three were conducted in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, two each in Haryana, Gujarat, West Bengal and one each in Kerala and Assam.

Violators are likely to face a fine of upto Rs 50,000 or one year imprisonment, the official added.
