Cong for high-level probe into women's home sex crimes

Bhopal, Feb 28 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Jamuna Devi today demanded the government to order a high-level inquiry into alleged sexual harassment of inmates at a women's home in Gwalior.

''The kind of details coming to light make it imperative for the regime to spell out its stand. The public will lose faith if such crimes take place in government-run orphanages and homes. An attempt is underway to influence the investigation by exerting political pressure,'' she said in a statement.

Seeking a clarification from state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan about a minister's name allegedly figuring in the case, the Congress tribal leader added that if this was true, it was a stigma on the regime.

Congress state General Secretary Manak Agrawal also condemned the crime.
