CITU march to press demands

Madurai, Feb 27 (UNI) The Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) today took out a massive procession in the city and staged a demonstration to press their charter of demands, including making the Welfare Board for workers in the unorganised sector functional.

Over 3000 workers, including 800 women, led by CITU State Vice-President M Chandran and city unit President B Vikraman, took part in the procession and demonstration.

They raised slogans demanding that the Labour Department wake up from 'slumber' and address issues concerning workers. They also sought extension of welfare board benefits without delay.

The demonstration was organised in front of the office of the Joint Commissioner of Labour in the city.

Similar demonstrations and protest marches were held in district headquarters, as part of the state-wide agitation.
