Badal elected unanimous leader of SAD-BJP alliance

Chandigarh, Feb 28 (UNI) The 67-member Shiromani Akali Dal- Bharatiya Janata Party (SAD-BJP) legislature group today unanimously elected SAD supremo Parkash Singh Badal as its leader in a joint meeting held here today.

Four of the five independents have also extended their support to the SAD-BJP alliance for formation of the government.

Prominent among those who attended the joint meeting were Mr Arun Jaitley, BJP general secretary and incharge of party affairs in Punjab, former BJP president Venkiah Naidu, Vinod Khanna, MP and newly elected MP Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Mr Parkash Singh Badal's MP son Sukhbir Badal who is also SAD general secretary was also present at the joint meeting.

Earlier, the 48-member SAD legislature party held a special meeting to elect Mr Badal as their unanimous leader.
